French Language

The French language belongs to the Romance language family.
It developed in the area of the originally Celtic Gaul under the influence of Provincial Latin and Teutonic.
There are three large groups of dialects:
Northern French
Provençal (in the South)
Franco-Provençal (in the East)
French, the elegant as well as lightly and fast speakable language is spoken by approx. 124 million people.
Apart from France French is widespread in the former French colonies and is also spoken in Belgium, Luxemburg, in Switzerland and in Canada.
