The New World Language
(see also <Wikipedia>)
The English language belongs to the North Sea Teutonic group of the Teutonic dialects.
After the annexation of territory and the settlement of the Anglos and Frisians the celtic dialects were replaced by Anglo-Saxon. After that, Anglo-Saxon was strongly influenced by Danish and later by French.
In spite of the high number of English speakers who are native speakers, Chinese comes first among the most spoken languages. However, English has reached a worldwide spreading. It is spoken on all continents, Europe (Great Britain), America, with Canada, Australia with New Zealand, Africa and Asia. Apart from the native speakers there are millions of people in countries where English is the official language (e.g. India), i.e. it is used as a second language. Furthermore, people of many nations have learnt English for political or other reasons or for business or science.
Consequently, there is a strong influence of English on many other languages, above all on German. Here you have to see to it that this influence does not become too strong.
